More concept art
I got a bit self indulged today and drew Alys again.
When I initially made her design, she had a cape, but I took it away to make it easier to draw her long-term. I've been playing with the idea of giving her the cape back a lot, and I think I'm confident enough as an artist to give her the cape again, even if she wont wear it most of the time lol
I think Alys really is the character I put the most thought into so far. Which makes sense, since she's also the first oc I made when I decided to make games. She's the protagonist of the game that I want to make most, and altough I know her time to shine isnt anytime soon, I hope I can share her story with you someday, and I hope people will love her as much as I do. She's my favorite, and always will be.
I want to talk a little about her design.
It's fairly simple, and if I was to design her now, I definietely wouldn't have drawn her like this, but I think nothing would fit her character better.
In re:dream, magical girls arent just limited to being girls, and they are called guardians.
A guardians form is decided by two things; their concept of what a hero would be, and what they would like to look like.
Alys extremely insecure and doesnt want to stand out. If she could disappear and live without anyone ever perceiving her ever again, she would. That is why even in her guardian form, her clothes are very plain, and she has a hooded cape that she can use to hide herself.
And Alys doesnt have any idea of what a hero would be like to her. She isn't very happy, and isn't really in control of her own life, so all that she is clinging to is the hope that one day, everything will be better. She hopes that one day, she won't be afraid of what will come tomorrow.
That's why her colour pallete is based on a sunrise. Even despite all of her challenges, and all of her fears, she wants to make the best out of it, and always hopes for a better tomorrow. She represents that exact hope. And to the people around her, she is the sun that keeps rising, day after day, again and again.
