UPDATE: Introducing SwellTales.com!

Update:

I've added a special discord role to this new tier that will grant access to a special channel! I hope to use this as a forum to help progress the state of the site as well as discuss ideas and features. We have had several people already upgrade, so a HUGE thank you for their support. Keep an eye out for a post or two! I plan on showing off some screenshots and exclusive art of the Swell Tales mascot, Maria!

Announcing our newest venture: swelltales.com! For a long time, I've felt there is nowhere suitable to share and find expansion stories. DeviantArt kind of works, but it's DeviantArt and it's impossible to find something you want. Overflowingbra is somewhat useful, but it makes you download a zip file and the UX leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm envisioning a 1-stop shop for all expansion-related stories of all genres. That means a clean UI, easy searching that works, in-browser reading, a dynamic dashboard that shows everything you care about for your favorite categories, as well as a handful of other useful reader/writer features.

I've already begun development on the website, as well as bought the domain. A lot of the base infrastructure has already been built: landing page, base pdf upload, database, and user login/registration loop. My goal is to have a very basic test site hosted sometime in January for you to explore.

That brings me to the new tier. This is going to be a big project, especially since I can only work on it after I'm finished writing the monthly patreon content. I estimate at least 6 months before the true launch. HOWEVER, feedback is crucial for this kind of stuff. This is where you all come in.

The new tier (Beyond Engorged) will give access to a password-protected development site that I'll deploy to after finishing each feature. While this isn't really a traditional tier with monthly benefits, you'll still receive visibility and be able to take an active role in the development process by testing and providing feedback. There will also be some art, as we're planning on having a very cute site mascot. Most importantly, you'll help keep the lights on.

This kind of website will deal with a lot of storage and a lot of bandwidth, and that's not cheap. My hope is to keep Swell Tales ad-free. While the new tier helps support active development, its main function is to fund the site itself (hosting, email servers, domain registration fees, etc). I also have a slew of 'premium' features planned for users willing to make a monthly subscription to the site, but that's a long way down the road and I'm still feeling it out.

The new tier is currently priced at $20. I realize it's up there, but this isn't a small venture. I'll be very clear: this tier is for those who wish to support the creation of something great for the expansion community. It's a lot to ask but things like this take a village and I hope a handful of you will be along for the ride. Every little bit helps and I'm very excited to see where swelltales.com will go.
