Madison's Footrest - Full Render Pass (No Sound)

27th August was the date when I first posted an image of Madison ported into blender after a whole day of struggle, I wasn't too sure what I was gonna do with her but I figured it would be pretty cool to bring her to life with a short animation and nothing else came up my mind except her using Yang as her footrest.

This project wasn't really my main thing until a few months ago when I suddenly decided a short 6 second video of Madison stepping on Yang was simply not good enough, and I wanted to do a little more than just that.

Half a year later, here we are, finishing up animating the 21st shot / cut of the not-so-short short film, a total of 4 minutes and 20 seconds and a crazy 6000 frames and I have learnt so much in the process. Body animation, facial expression, interaction, camera, cloth sim, shape key, composition, I managed to try them all!

The journey has been absolutely magical for me and today, we finally get to see the outcome of that, behold, the full render pass WIP footage of Madison's Footrest - a blender animation!

The journey is far from over however, as this is only a render pass of the whole short film, there is quite a long list of things I will need to do before the final release, you can call them “polishing”, including all of those following:

  • Fixing up a few bits and pieces of poke through and awkward poses
  • Fixing up some camera settings and depth of field
  • Adding more cloth simulation to Yang’s body to make the contact look better
  • Render them all in the production quality - this is going to take a long time as I started with 1 minute per frame in the engine and have to crank it up to at least 5, which means it will take 5 times as long
  • Assemble all the images once again in post production and make edits, add end credits etc.
  • ADDING SOUND - or at least some sound effects

With the extra time I have on animation in February, It is still going to take a good month or so to complete them all and I want to give you all the best I can do, but you are not gonna see a lot more WIPs except for perhaps when I am adding sound to the animation, which will still be awhile away.

After that, the full short animation will be first released on Patreon, and then on everywhere else a few days later!

Most of these work involves a lot of waiting and staring, but with the majority of it done with the debut animation, it means I will have quite a lot of time to work on a lot of new things, including my plan of producing 2 blender animation shorts each month that I am really, really excited for - I will have a more detailed announcement about that next Monday, after we finish up the last update of DHTG Season 2 Chapter 8!
