BTS- NPC System
Finally I got the first image with them out!
Ignore the Bus asset, it came in an addon pack that I had bought. While it looked good from outside. The interiors will need a severe overhaul.
The NPCs are all copies of 1 character. I had designed it so that I could quickly swap out clothing, accessories, head shapes, body shapes, and hair. On top of that every time I duplicate the model, it randomizes the textures. For now its only a Male character model. The NPC has 6 head shapes that I can pick from, 3 body types, and 3 Skin texture types. That plus 3 shades of skin tones allows for quite a bit of variation.
The models need to be usable at several different distances from the camera. High quality up close and not to detailed for the background(it would be a waste of resource on something you can't see. In this scene there's 9 NPCs, coming out to about 1.5Million polygons. With the Set and the Main character, it seems to be the upper limit for my rig. Some serious optimization of the models will need to be done on a per scene basis.
You can probably see why it took so long to make, and how much more work that I would need to improve on it. I want to do a female character also, but women, are so damn attached to "stuff". Jewelry, bags, hair types, clothing types, I can feel the weight of all that work....
Its pretty cool though to add a little bit of life into the scene. Tell me what you think, if there's something that I could improve!
