Haaaaaaaaaaaiiii how's everyone doin' this week? Good good?

Hope your week was a fun one! I was having a blast working on these closeup scenes! I always really love taking on scenes like this, makes me wanna do more for future projects. The internal scene was especially fun as I stumbled across some really cool techniques of how to get it all slithery. Sometimes you guys like when I get all technical geeky-like so I'll get into it, no need to read past here if that's not your jam, no offence taken at all.
Basically the art for the internal shot started off completely straight with two layers top and bottom for the inside view, and one for the tentacle. I used puppet pins in After Effects to bit-by-bit painstakingly track it opening as the tentacle passed through - that wasn't the fun part (especially given how gosh darn long I wanted to make it. If anyone knows any way that's better than manually doing this hmu I'd love to hear about it!) but when it was completely straight it doesn't give it that slithery and internal look so I added the curve with puppet pins on the actual external comp itself so instead of it just going straight across it could follow along an up and down wavy path! And then I added a very subtle boil on the tentacle to make it look even more wiggly, and this is the end result that I'm was really happy with.
That probs won't make so much sense but sometimes I have fun little ideas like this and sometimes they work out! And sometimes they absolutely do not. Which is one of the things that I really love about having this Patreon vs just taking on normal work. Working like this allows me to actually experiment and yeah sometimes those are just failures that will never see the light of day but sometimes the results exceed expectations and the only way I'd ever know, is if I actually give 'em a go. Thank you guys for letting me be able to do that and to become a better animator because of it! (And then bring you even cooler scenes out of it!)
