The purpose of this start to the scene is to emphasize the different ways each character goes about resolving conflict. It reinforces what we've already learned about them, while at the same time, ending on an intimate note that should make the reader aware this is a more complicated relationship

When I drafted this, I visualized them facing the moon, though this is now at an awkward angle. Gotta fix that in the final!
