The Road Ahead

Tales From the Herd, a game where you can create your own character and befriend a colorful cast of ponies – some, who may feel quite familiar – is my dream project. With it, I aim to tell a lasting story about community and finding one's place, alongside a suite of varied and engaging gameplay elements.

Conceptually, development on the game began years ago, but ramped up heavily during 2023. Since the launch of Prologue, I have released three fundamental updates, with the inclusions of controller support, full input-rebinding, and a complete UI overhaul (click here to play the prologue); shortly after, work began in earnest on the main adventure, which you can now see a preview of in the trailer above. Obviously, there is a lot waiting for you out there in the world! So I wanted to take the time to show you just what to expect in the coming year...

Arrival

Chapter One of the game, now simply titled "Arrival", will be the next stage of development. It is here you will discover a slumbering village, get acquainted with new mechanics, and meet a particular purple pony. Because of its scope, Arrival will come in parts, each of which will expand your toolset as a player, and deepen the story and characters surrounding you.

I do not have an estimated release date for the first build of Arrival, but I will make an announcement when that's close.

Public Steam Launch

Patrons will have access to the game as it develops, and I will watch engagement and listen to feedback as each alpha update reaches your hands. Afterwards, a public early access release on Steam will follow. This will include the release of a demo encompassing all of the prologue, and a small section of Arrival.

As any major update draws nearer, I will release a more in-depth look at what it'll entail, and how things are changing. More on that in the post following this one.

I love ponies, I love this community; and so long as I have the tools to do so, I can't see how I won't be continuing work on this project for the foreseeable future. However if you are seeking to help me on this endeavor, and get rewarded in the process – I would be sincerely grateful.
