Aphrodite vs Baba-Set [TEASER]

This set of pages might also be titled "Pride comes before the fall." Here we see Aphrodite at the peak of her powers, confronting Baba-Set in all her glory. At this point he's consumed the Golden Apple, so the goddess of love and beauty thinks her victory is assured, taunting and tempting the Egyptian ape-god and getting a noticeable rise out of him.

This chapter is so much fun because of the variety of unusual forms and textures I get to draw. Baba-Set and Aphrodite are such starkly contrasting figures, as demonstrated here, and Aphrodite is a joy to draw, with her alluring and fulsome figure, flowing robes and undulating hair. In full goddess mode, she's not unlike Dark Phoenix, but I also wanted every panel she's in to feel like a true work of art, like a classical sculpture or painting. Baba, on the other hand, is a grotesque figure, yet undeniably, totemically masculine. Beauty... and the Beast.
