Patreon Lookback: Game of Thrones: BLACKED
As a means of getting more content up on my new Patreon, ASAP, I thought I would start a series of spotlight posts highlighting some of my classic stories from the old Patreon, so new readers can discover my work and feel like they're getting their money's worth from their pledge.
Game of Thrones: BLACKED was one of the first new comics I did for my Patreon, and it has become one of my most popular stories. I haven't done a sequel or continued the story at all, but a follow-up with Sansa or other GOT girls is one of my most-requested projects.
The idea came from my own interest in the BLACKED genre, and my fandom of the Game of Thrones show. Though I'd never read the books, I learned that in the world of Westeros, there was a separate, unexplored continent known as Sothoryos, clearly an analogue for Africa. I thought it would be a fun subversion of the pretty uniformly white Game of Thrones drama to reveal that Sothoryos is actually home to an advanced and powerful culture, and we'd see them invade Westeros in the midst of the civil war and easily conquer the entire continent while it was in disarray. Kind of a reverse colonial imperialism, as we see that the world of Westeros we've been following is actually just a very small and weak corner of a larger world.
I think people also just love Emilia Clarke, and it was very fun to draw her likeness, and Dany's intricate hair and braids.
