"The Moon is Beautiful, Isn't it"

I keep hearing that this phrase "月が綺麗ですね" (the moon is beautiful, isn't it) in Japanese apparently is an indirect way to say "I love you", but it seems to have originated from an anecdote about a Meiji Era scholar Natsume Sōseki who thought that the Japanese people (of the time) shouldn't express love so directly, and thus ""月が綺麗ですね" will suffice, but it doesn't seem to have any relevance in present day.

What DOES have relevance though, is the fact that I stood naked in a field in the middle of the night in order to take this picture for you, and if that's not true love I don't know what is ♡
