Backpack Tengu
beepboop, my second tutorial! Wee! If you've taken a suspension level class from me in person, there's a good chance you've seen this before. I call it "backpack" because there's so many damn frictions in the back it feels like you're wearing a tiny backpack.
some faq's:
-i primarily load this from the back and find that to be the most supportive option. the front works, yes, but i don't find that to be the most sustainable option for most folks
-TENSION IS KEY. that top wrap needs to be tight
-add shoulder straps if you want! change the chest ropes if you want! I like to treat the basic structure (best band + shoulder band + elbow cuffs) as if it were a TK-ish structure, and the rest like as if it were a "third rope"
-edit as if 10/17: i’m now strongly suggesting adding shoulder straps, unless you only plan to load this vertically. they help keep that top band against the body in face down and inverted positions and help prevent warping in your back stem. i’ll post an updated tutorial with this change soon!
a few disclaimers:
-your safety is your responsibility. know when it's appropriate to have a spotter and/or to review a tie with a rope educator in person.
-this pattern is a product of many years of learning from many different humans in many different styles of rope. i don't claim this to be MyPatternTM, nor is it specifically learned or copied from someone else.
