From Ideal X to Ever Forward & Ever Given: The Evolution of the Containership

On this episode, Sal Mercogliano - former merchant mariner and maritime historian at Campbell University - discusses the evolution of the container ship.  With the recent grounding of Ever Forward off Balitmore on March 13, 2022 and the more high profile grounding of Ever Given in the Suez on March 23, 2021, it is appropriate to examine how these ships developed from a modified T-2 tanker in 1956 into the neo-Panamax and Ultra Large Container Vessels that sail the world's oceans today.
