陸上自衛隊 武器学校

先日5月14日に茨城県の陸上自衛隊武器学校を取材してきました。

I recently visited the Ground Self-Defence Force Ordnance School in Ibaraki Prefecture on 14 May.

名前の通り陸上自衛隊の武器科(武器の整備や修理・不発弾処理などを行う職種)を訓練するための学校です。

As the name implies, the school is designed to train the Ground Self-Defence Force's Weapons Department (positions that maintain and repair weapons, dispose of unexploded ordnance, etc.).

そのため様々な陸戦兵器に精通するために古今東西の各種火器火砲が所蔵されています。今回は実物を一覧できる国内では貴重な場所として取材を行いました。

Therefore, in order to become familiar with various land warfare weapons, various firearms and guns from the past and present are held in the museum's collection. This time, we interviewed the museum as a valuable place in Japan where actual items can be listed.

この武器学校では大型の大砲から戦車など戦闘車両、小銃や拳銃などの小火器や弾薬に至るまで幕末から現代まで取り揃えています。また自国や友好国だけではなく、いわゆる冷戦時代に仮想敵国だった旧ソ連の武器も収蔵されています。

The Ordnance school has everything from large artillery pieces, tanks and other combat vehicles to small arms and ammunition, such as rifles and pistols, from the end of the Edo period to the present day. It also houses weapons not only of its own and friendly countries, but also of the former Soviet Union, which was a virtual enemy during the so-called Cold War.

Type 3 medium tank (back) and Type 89 medium tank (front)

詳しい方はご存知だと思いますが、八九式中戦車は走行できるまでレストアされていましたが、現用戦車ではないことから維持する予算がつかず今は屋外展示されています。

As those in the know know, the Type 89 medium tank was restored until it was ready to run, but as it is not a current tank, the budget to maintain it was not available and it is now on display outdoors.

軍用銃に限らず珍しい銃火器も展示してあります。

Rare firearms are also on display, not only military guns.

モデルガンよりも実物はゴツゴツと荒い仕上がりです。

The real thing has a lumpier and rougher finish than the model gun.

側面にシアーが露出しているので暴発しやすいと言われることもありますが、当時の日本軍の操作マニュアルに従えば実は安全に取り扱う事ができ、日本人の小さな手でも撃ちやすい拳銃だったようです。

It is sometimes said to be prone to outbursts because of the exposed sear on the side, but in fact it could be handled safely if the Japanese military operating manuals of the time were followed, and it was a pistol that was easy to shoot even with small Japanese hands.

Type 20 5.56 mm rifle, a new rifle that has just been formalised in 2020.

現在の89式小銃の後継として開発され、各部をモダナイズした小銃です。見た目はベルギーのFNハースタル社のSCARとよく似た今となっては保守的なデザインです。

This rifle was developed as the successor to the current Type 89 rifle, with modernised parts. In appearance, it is now a conservative design, much like the Belgian FN Herstal SCAR.

20式小銃のとなりには比較評価用に購入されたFN SCARが展示してありました。純正のフルセットを見ることができるのはとても貴重です。

Next to the Type 20 rifle, an FN SCAR purchased for comparative evaluation was on display. It is very valuable to be able to see the full factory set-up.

屋外には新旧様々な陸上自衛隊が装備している(していた)車両が展示されています。

特にMLRSは今まさに制作中のイラスト原稿のテーマでもあるので非常に参考になりました。

Various old and new GSDF vehicles are on display outside.

The MLRS in particular was very informative as it is the subject of an illustration manuscript I am working on at the moment.

これも陸上自衛隊がかつて装備していた戦車です。

まだ国産戦車が開発できなかった頃は米国から戦車を供与されていました。

These are also the tanks that the Ground Self-Defence Force was once equipped with.

The tanks were provided by the USA when domestic tanks could not yet be developed.

なかなか一日ではすべてをじっくり見ることができないほどの収蔵品の量で、かなり駆け足で写真を撮りまくりました。また、取材にいきたいなぁと思います。

The amount of items in the collection was so large that it was difficult to take a good look at everything in a single day, and I had to run around quite a bit to take all the photos. I would like to visit again.

今回は取材ツアーということで、日照プラント工業さんの戦車工房も見学しました。

As this was a news tour, we also visited Nisshou Plant Industry's tank workshop.

こちらの会社は本来原子力プラントや研究所の機器や配管溶接を行う特殊な鉄工所です。業務の傍らで趣味の戦車(なんと走行可能です)を制作されているとのことです。

This company is essentially a special ironworks that welds equipment and pipework for nuclear plants and laboratories. In addition to their work, they also produce tanks (which can run!) as a hobby.

おわかりの方はピンと来ると思いますが、どれもアニメ『ガールズ＆パンツァー 』に登場する戦車です。ルノーFTや菱形戦車は解説イラストを描いたことがある戦車なので非常に感慨深かったです。

As you can probably guess, they are all tanks from the anime Girls und Panzer. The Renault FT and Rhombus tanks are tanks for which I have drawn explanatory illustrations, so I was very deeply moved by them.
