Patreon Development Update 12.05.2023

Hello everyone,

Important: A quick reminder that our original Wild Life discord server has been lost to a hacker attack. To learn more about what happened, please read this public patreon post if you haven't yet. If you are still on the old server we urge you to leave that as it is no longer in our control.
We have created a new community discord server (Wild Life Official) and connected it to our patreon page and are pleased to see how fast it is growing. We are very hopeful it will someday be even greater than the one we lost.

And now on to the classic weekly progress report. Here is what the team worked on this week:

Level: We have been converting our Master Materials to a new architecture and workflow to help with performance and usability.

Finished Warrior Village Blockout, now started working on improving the Pearl Village's landscape.

Code: We switched over to dynamic navigation mesh generation as an experiment. While the previous static navigation mesh works fine, it is very inflexible and generates large amounts of data.

The dynamic generation comes at a slight performance cost and can cause hitches if there are many characters pathfinding, but it will finally allow characters to pathfind around your sandbox scenes!

As part of our work on analytics, we implemented a system that allows the user to upload crash reports. This system uses the standard Unreal Crash Reporter, so the user can decide for each crash whether they want to upload it or not.

Character: We have been making some awesome progress on the outfit front, check out all these WIP models and designs!
Also, started work on Agon, brother of Chakkar and chief of the Warrior Village.

Animations: Janara's snake bite scene for Koodie's Emergency quest is done. Continuing our work on routine animations.

Design:

Our designers have been very busy bees, here is a list of all they touched on this week:

  • Almost finished the design for the Item system
  • Continued the design for the combat system (weapons and ammo)
  • Pearl village side quest design
  • Managing all the new routine animation data
  • Maya X Zyke quest and dialogues
  • Jadeen quest and dialogues for Maya
  • Barran dialogues for Max and Maya
  • Started implementing several missing cutscenes from the previous build (Max X Janara minigame, Max X Koodie cutscene)
