Quest 3 Pre-Order Open Today!
Pre-order opened today with an October 10th start ship date, so I'm guessing that's when they'll show up in stores as well.
The cheapest model is $500, quite a difference from the previous $300 release.
The main upgrades seem to be higher res, not lighter but better balanced, refresh rate bump, better Processor of course, and huge pass-through improvement for AR potential, though will have to see how "usable" that is. I've seen some interesting pass-through stuff already with NSFW stuff and I've even tried out converting a scene for pass-through use.
Here are the full specs:

The larger 512GB version is $650.
Is the larger storage worth it? I have tons of games loaded on mine and it was super easy to fill it up. I'm guessing that'll carry forward into this next gen of games as well. Not to mention if you want to load up your VR videos, from say my archive or any other creators you follow. I usually stream my videos from the PC, but if that's not an option then this could be another reason to upgrade.
Should you upgrade? If you happy with the Quest 2, not big on AR and tight on funds, I'm sure the Quest 2 will be gtg for a while yet. It's gotten tons of upgrades that have completely transformed it from release. If you have the dough, can drop hints for a Christmas present or want to wait to see if you can get a few bunks off (not many though) on black friday, then I'll be a nice bump in features all around.
If your looking to jump out of the Facebook ecosystem or are already out of it, then hang on, cause the Pico 5 should be dropping next year and it's looking like it'll be a contended to the Quest 3. There are also lots of other options at the high-end. I haven't paid as much attention to those, but it'll be instesting to see the effect the Apple Vision Pro has on the industry as a whole and the Big Screen $1k headset is the smallest high end one out there as far as I know which seems great for videos and I'd be considering if you didn't need all your own Vive stuff to go with it.
All in all, 2023 Q4 and 2024 Q1/2 will be fairly significant for MR as far as hardware and software goes. The games mentioned for Quest 3 look really interesting as well. Check it out!
