'Bending' Process Video - How I Struggled to Paint This!
Hey everyone,
This illustration took two days to complete. I struggled quite a lot with the armor! Initially, I was looking for an excuse to paint armor and metal material. Starting from that point, I searched for a casual object that shared at least some similar characteristics. A smashed can was just perfect, as it gave me the idea of making knights fighting or, in this case, one of them being stabbed.
After hours of trying different gestures and looking at references like all the killing scenes in Game of Thrones, I managed to come up with a decent pose and some sketchy saturated colors for the first day. Day two was more of a rendering challenge since both armors did not have a solid reference. Therefore, the reflection of the environment in the metal needed to be created from scratch. I did use some references, as you will find in the video, but it was still a bit difficult. Eventually, I desaturated the colors because I found the piece to be a bit too much and put saturation in just a few spots, like the blue, which was one of my favorite things in these types of armor reflections.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy the process. Check the PSD to find out more about the 1000 layers I added for armor values (there were really like three extra layers than I commonly use).
