The model

I managed to destroy myself and still make a photoshoot work.

So, I’m a model, and I had a big photoshoot scheduled last week. The theme was “raw urban beauty,” so naturally, I wanted to get into the right vibe. My brilliant idea? Try out skateboarding for the first time because nothing screams “urban cool” like cruising on a board.

I borrowed a board from a friend and headed to the park. At first, I was just awkwardly standing on it, trying to stay balanced. But then, in classic overachiever fashion, I decided to try going down a small hill. Halfway down, the board wobbled, and I completely lost control. I flew off, landed hard, and heard a crunch and two snaps that I will never forget. I couldn’t even get up because my leg and arm were screaming in pain.

Turns out, I gave myself a spiral fracture in my tibia (which I learned is when your bone twists and breaks all the way up—fun!) and snapped both my radius and ulna in both my arms. Ambulance ride, hospital visit, and now I’m rocking a bright pink cast on my leg and arm. The doctor said, “You’re lucky it wasn’t worse,” but honestly, it felt like the universe was trolling me.

Here’s the kicker: the shoot was still on. I called the photographer to cancel, but he was like, “No, this is perfect. Broken, vulnerable, edgy—it’s exactly what we need.” I thought he was joking, but nope. So, the next day, I hobbled into this run-down, dimly lit room that looked like it hadn’t been used since the ‘70s. It had peeling paint, rusty pipes, and a single beam of light streaming through a dirty window.

The photographer LOVED it. He had me leaning against the wall, the sunlight hitting my casts just right. He said the contrast between the “rawness” of my injuries and the “grit” of the room was “art.” I mean, I wasn’t going to argue—he was hyped, and honestly, the shots turned out incredible. Anyway, the Photographer just love taking closeup of my toes peeking out of the cast.

So yeah, I went from “urban skater girl” to “injured fashion muse” in 24 hours. The moral of the story? Don’t skateboard right before a shoot. Or maybe do, if you’re into pain and artistic accidents.
