Rock is dead, they say. Long live Rock.

In what has to be considered a startling upset during the month of October, horror films Friday the 13th (which I've somehow never seen) and Chime (directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, so I'm just assuming it's horror, or at least horror-adjacent) were defeated by The Hot Rock, which I'm fairly confident features no spookiness whatsoever. Chime put up a good fight, but the final tally was 39% to 35% to 26%. I've never seen Hot Rock, but it's the film Peter Yates made right before Friends of Eddie Coyle, which ranks among my 100 or so favorite films of all time, so my anticipation is high. Plus of course it serves as another memorial viewing for Robert Redford, and probably a superior choice to Barefoot in the Park (which I rewatched right after he died). Not digitally available, alas.

Couple of very moldy oldies (in the sense that they were requested years ago) were selected by random.org this month. I frankly didn't recall Silver Tongues as having been a poll option, and wonder whether the person who wanted me to watch it is still with us. (Should've kept track of who requested what.) No idea what it is, even—thought it was maybe one of Nathan Silver's, but that was just because "Silver" is in the title, I guess. Did it get a NYC theatrical release? [checks] It did indeed, 10 months after premiering at Slamdance 2011. Anyway, I'll find out! Available via Hoopla (for me, at least). That film was four weeks and out, but Defending Your Life stuck around, years ago, for 36 weeks before finally being pulled; I saw it during its original run in '91, recall being mildly disappointed relative to Brooks' previous films. Got the Criterion Blu-ray right here, and it's rentable.

Plus, yet another request has hit week 52 and ascended to Valhalla: The Timekeepers of Eternity, which I gather is some sort of...remix? Something to do with King's The Langoliers? Think I used to know more, but I've forgotten now and shan't look it up. Just understand it's gonna be a bit of a while before I get to it, as the queue suddenly got long again—I just watched The Boxer's Omen, but there are still four others ahead of it (plus the two above). Will try to knuckle down soon, though AFI Fest starts next week...

As always, I can't express how grateful I am to each and every one of you for your literal patronage. But I'll just keep repeating it anyway.
