A Turian named Primlius
I met Prim early on... after first contact everything went south. It was one for the records but a lot of us didn't see exactly what the government saw. So once peace was brought between races I remember I was one of the first ones to volunteer. I was stationed in the Citadel mostly just as a guard to high profile faces, specially during this very important times.
There were a lot of meetings between the Turian race and us; the Human Race. So of course there would be only the highest ranking guards conjoined right outside their meeting space. That's when I met Prim... my job was simple and it was usually boring but for whatever reason Prim and I kept sharing glances.
Each time I caught him glancing or he'd catch me. Every second of that first meeting, we couldn't help but scan each other. Our physiques were..... different but... similar. Stocky, a little skinny for my taste but I heard they made quite devoted warriors so who was I to judge?
For the next several days during these meetings our eyes would inevitably find each other. Whether we were stationed right across each other or to the side. After a day or two I thought I was full of myself, why would a Turian have eyes on me? There were two other human guards next to me. But no matter where I was, stationed closest to the door or furthest. His eyes would always find me and only me, none of the others seem to catch his attention.
So the following day my eyes would begin to study him back. I had so many questions with every inch that my eyes took in, but I also knew my position didn't leave room for that. Everything from the weird plating on their faces... to the extra appendages sticking out.. whether it was on the back of their head, their shoulders, legs... I wasn't a scientist but.... for one reason or another I studied the hell out of him with my eyes. That night I didn't get any sleep... have I really been gawking at this alien for the last few days? Was I going crazy? Maybe he was sizing me up to take me down. Maybe he hates my race, yet here's this dumb human wishing I could sort of peek at what was under his armor.
Well, eventually I got a day to relax and I took advantage of it, I explored the Citadel, definitely hit the bar. I was dying to try some of the drinks my colleagues spoke about. Some drinks were... gross as they stated, and some were... a kick in the ass from how strong they were. The music was loud and weird but I did appreciate to hear familiar sounds form the human world.
And then a group came in... it was several Turians. But what caught my eye was that specific marking... I had only spent several days looking at it, it was no surprise that I knew exactly who that Turian was, even without his armor. Just like that I caught myself staring and I guess I wasn't the only one since he had stopped dead in his tracks.... as his group continued in. They of course noticed and returned to him to check up on him before I looked away. For once I didn't need eyes on the back of my head to know there were a few eyes on me. I grabbed my drink and shot it back following by a nice crack or two of my neck. I don't know what was about to happen but I was ready to throw down just in case.
But that action never came. The group took a table, ordered their drinks and continued to enjoy their day. I sighed out in relief, but also disappointment. I kind of wanted something to happen, a greeting? Perhaps I just wanted to hear what he sounded like. As if he was reading my mind of course several minutes later I heard. "So what do you think of the drinks?" I didn't look over. I didn't need to. His voice was rough and raspy and even if I hadn't heard it before I knew exactly who had spoken to me. I felt so stupid how quickly a smile spread across my face and a blush brushed up on my cheeks.
We shared a quick greeting, began to speak about our position, ranking... all that boring employment questions. Maybe this was his way of breaking the ice. Then I realized his gang had eyes on us... his entourage? They all kept looking over with what I can only imagine was a grin in their faces before gossiping. They clearly knew something I didn't. Then he said he liked how my cheeks changed colors and asked if that's a human thing? I guess... I was blushing real hard by that point. Was he gay?... I suppose even alien races can have open sexuality correct? Of course... why wouldn't they. It didn't take long before he got me a drink and I finished it ever so quickly. He said it was his favorite here at the Citadel. After a bit he'd look at his friends who would all usher him and provide some kind of support. This time I noticed. I can't remember how many drinks I had in me at this point but I know I grabbed his wrist which startled him as I leaned in and whispered my room # near the human Council.
I left the bar cursing my life and every decision up until this point. I just hit on a Turian. Was it even legal? It was a male Turian on top of that. Noooo it must had been legal, he wouldn't had done that in public. After beating myself up all the way back to my room. I decided I wasn't drunk enough since I was still regretting all of this. I opened up a bottle I brought from back home and that's when I heard a buzz. It was the door... I looked at it and gulped real hard. No way... there was only one reason he'd show up... right?...Right. I peeked and bit my lip. It was Prim behind the door looking as nervous as ever. It looks like some things translate the same from Human to other alien races.
When I opened the door, everything changed after that. We talked... and talked... and talked some more. We drank and sat closer, we drank, and relaxed some more. We drank and realized it was getting late and we drank until all our insecurities were out the window and floating up in space somewhere. That night... I shared a bed. We got absolutely no sleep... and I learned so much about Turians... males specifically. During the rest of my stay we coordinated on days off. Any time... whether it was a few hours.. or an entire day. We practically stayed in each others place...spent time together. Learned more about our... anatomies.
On a specific night we got... kind of emotional. I had told him my company would be returning back to Earth. Not knowing when or if I'd return to the Citadel. That night he brought this weird tube and he showed me how he puts his paint on. Then he put the paint on me, of course I thought it was cool... until he said what the face paint meant. It looked identical to his... then I remembered what that kind of meant. My heart froze and we sat there in silence. We promised each other one way or another we'd cross paths again.
I will keep that promise... no matter how long it takes.
