"A lot of optimisation stuff has was done this past week. Firstly we optimised our new walls by a lot, cuz with more details more polygons followed and a lot of them were not efficient, so with some remeshing - we made it clean and more usable, some we sliced, like this big outerwall, so now we can show just half of it we need at the time."

"Other border walls in the end of the location were else optimised and slightly changed to fit in with new detailed walls slightly better, after that followed rework of a secondary gate cuz they were way too unfinished and in comparison with newer elements felt even more, also a fun task was to create a fences for it, which can properly block characters from passing by, as you can see scale of those gate are quite enormous in comparison to our lovely Alda."

"Lastly what I would love to share with you guys is overall level up of other background details that were made to fit in with new walls nicely.   Some other optimization  was done here and there, it was quite a time consuming but in the end worthwhile task, lastly I finally started working on Mercenary Guild building, but gonna share it with you on the next update, it is still in the middle of construction. "Heya gamers, last week I've worked mostly on getting the
wet aesthetics for character skin down, as well as writing dialogue for the voice actors we're casting at the moment."

"To get the right look, I've collected a bunch of "sloppy face" references. My goal was to translate that sloppy spot slobbered skin look into the game."

"We, like the vast majority of 3d games, use the PBR workflow: Physically based rendering. That's really just a fancy wording for having a very specific set of textures."

"Albedo: The pure color information Metallic: How metallic is this pixel? White = 100% metal, Black = 0% metal. Smoothness: How smooth is the surface at this pixel? White = perfectly smooth, black = completely rough."

The smoothness also defines how reflective an object is."

"Here's those 3 textures for alda's short sword for example"


"Putting those textures into unity on the mesh of the sword results in this look:"


"These same concepts are what I applied to try to get the wet look. Most of the work was focused on getting a nice smoothness map.   At first, I experimented with overlaying a "waterdrops" texture on top of the skin as the smoothness map, but it sadly didn't look right.  My next attempt was to hand-draw a "sweatmap", essentially a black-white texture that indicates how much sweat or liquid I want to draw at that pixel:"


"Next, I put together a shader in blender that would take this black-white sweatmap and essentially combined it with a bunch of random noise nodes to generate a normal and smoothness map, as well as some white spots on the albedo map:"


"It took a few iterations, but I ended up being fairly happy with this look. It was missing something though. Thickness.   You can only get so far with applying textures to a model. Real "wetness" of skin is not a change of surface properties of the skin, but a layer of liquid on top  of the skin."

"In other words, I needed a mesh, a surface separate from the skin"


"Using miki3dx's (huge shoutout https://twitter.com/miki3dxart, they're an amazing person for sharing this tool) cum painter, I created this shape on top of the skin. Because it is a separate mesh, I can also have fun stuff like stands hanging off of a surface and even connecting 2 surfaces with it."


"And here it is as it looks like right now in unity:"


"I don't think it's perfect yet but it's a huuuuuuuuuuuge step in a great direction for our visuals!"

"After this fun excursion into the realm of sloppiness, I've moved to writing a bunch of dialogue. Writing dialogue for Erokin is quite a bit different compared to Third Crisis, because in Erokin it has to be voice acted"

"Voice acting, as the name implies, is a form of acting. As such it needs a script to capture the exact intended emotions and mood. Also from a practical point of view, the dialogue has to be sent off to multiple voice actors. I want them to have an as easy time as possible acting for us, so I try to put a lot of effort into describing how exactly I want the scene to be acted. Here's an example:"


"The color coding is so that the VA knows at a glance which lines they have to read out. Green = Guard, blue-green = Alda, Purple = Dala  This document is then iterated on by me a bit until I'm happy with it. Essentially I write the whole scene and then I read it over and over again, changing awkward formulations, repeating words and such. If I'm still unsure about it I'll then ask the team for feedback.  Also a HUGE shoutout to PixieWillow who is an insane help in everything regarding voice acting. She's helping us through the entire process and there's no way we could do anywhere near as professionally without her!  She'll also voice at least one character and handle some of the moaning!"

"Speaking of moaning, unlike in third crisis where we had a library of moans that we reused in almost every scene, then plan for Erokin is to hand-craft every moan for every scene. Not 100% sure if this is going to make sense in the long run, how many different versions of "2 minutes of lewd heavy breathing" are we going to need?   But for now I love the idea to have each scene sound a little bit different!  And again, PixieWillow was a huge help in finding the right sound for blowjob scenes. I wanted to get the right sound for super sloppy blowjob and after a few tries, she NAILED it!"

"Besides all this, PacKing worked on fairly low poly villager models, so that we can have a few characters in the scene to make the city feel more alive without dragging performance down. They are through the first iteration now, but we want to try and look into making them fit the style of models a bit more by re-working some parts of them. Here's an example of what one of them looks like right now:"


"For main-story related characters, we have Markus, the adoptive father of Alda getting his 3d model:"


"I especially love the body under the armor, JuggerDown did an awesome job on him!"


"DrXoi has worked on the femboy elf model and I think it's really turned out great! It took a bit of iteration to get the right mix of masculine and feminine features but I really like the current version. He's not rigged yet and I want to give him more detailed nipples, but overall I'm very happy!"


"Nerada has worked on some more lewd animations for our lovely elven slaves. I especially love the dildo deformation he's incorporated into the animation!"


"Orochi has been working on more animations for the elves in the entrance area of the town:"
