Many have heard of Lady Alicia of the Zhentarim, but few alive today have seen her—and survived.

The birth name of this never-married LE tall blonde human female wizard is Norvarralicia Harltarlan, but in daily use everyone shortened her given name to Alicia (in her case, pronounced “Al-LEE-see-ah”). The eldest child of hard-working, Giftless merchant parents (her mother Maerithra was a dyer, and her father Orlzarr Harltarlan a wealthy, successful metals exporter and manygoods importer). From birth (on the twelfth of Mirtul in 1346 DR), Alicia was a strong-willed, stubborn, ambitious child with a powerful Gift; she had a “wild talent” for temporarily dazing people she could lock gazes with, and used this to murder her two younger brothers by pushing them off high balconies while they were enthralled. This Gift frightened several of her father’s business partners she used it on when they sought to cuff her for spitting at them, and when Alicia’s father grew suspicious of her uses of this power—and it grew strong enough that she could...
