A lot of what Cody says should be obvious to the reader too at this point. Willy is snappy and mean, but he is working according to a set of principles, and he is concerned with fairness and doing things the right way (his way is right, obviously). Willy feels like he always gives people what they deserve; but ultimately, his brand of justice skews towards reactive
People express their attachment to others in different ways. For someone who is afraid of losing control in their life, they might overfunction for other people they care about. For someone who is deeply insecure of their own value, they might feel like they couldn't possibly be worth someone else's time and effort, and might anticipate the end of the relationship
Sometimes unhealthy people can't express themselves in a healthy manner
With respect to the visuals, this is an extremely simple page, but adding backgrounds just seemed to clutter things up and mess with the text flow, so I dropped em. Maybe a few more years of comics and I can figure out how to do it better haha
