Fun fact: the shrinking effect is actually way easier to do than the growth effect (those white lines are always hand drawn). It's simply the overlapping of two pictures with different transparencies.

I could do the same for growth but... for some reason, I don't really associate the overlapping with growth. Some 2D artists can do a really cool overlapping growth effect but I rather keep the lines for growth and use the overlapping for shrining
