A Quick Update

Hey! I hope you've been enjoying Milestone Build 1, if you're a Wayfinder and have early access. I also appreciate all of the bug reports that have come in, and have already gotten around to fixing at least a few of them. But I just wanted to let you know about a few things before the game is widely available on April 18th...

Patching the Game

I've already pushed a number of patches for the game, mostly involving bug fixes like I said. But these are coming in like, every other day right now, so you may want to avoid having to re-download the entire game each time they drop.

This is where itch's desktop app really comes in handy. The milestone build is now utilizing this feature, and all future builds will as well – and what it essentially does is allow you to treat the game client more like you would a game on Steam. This means installation is greatly simplified, and all patches will automatically be applied to your copy as I roll them out.

You can still download the game's .zip file directly, if you prefer; I just wanted you to be aware that it's available through the desktop app now, and a much more user-friendly experience.

The Bug Tracker

As mentioned, a number of bugs have already been reported to me, and I really appreciate that. But to help avoid people double-reporting bugs, I've actually opened up my Trello board to the public, which is where I keep track of every known bug and its status. You can view which bugs I'm currently trying to solve from there, as well as feature requests and bugs I've already patched. And if you ever figure out a way to reliably trigger a bug in the 'Struggling to Recreate' column – let me know, because it's pretty difficult for me to solve bugs without being able to experience them myself!

And as always, bugs can be reported directly (herdtales@gmail.com) or publicly on the itch forums.

A Note About Patreon Pledges

You may have had the thought that you could subscribe as a Wayfinder just long enough to get access to the game, and then revoke your pledge before actually paying. And if you have had that thought, you would be correct! I don't want anyone who doesn't end up enjoying the game to have to lose money on it.

However, please note that if you do demote yourself to the free tier (or leave the Patreon completely) after getting early access, but before paying, you also revoke your privilege to the additional benefits of subscribing: having your name in the credits, and receiving a Steam key when the game eventually launches.

Note that this is only if you back out of your pledge before paying at all. As previously stated, if you pay even once, those benefits are yours; even if you never subscribe again.

In any case, thanks again for all of the support, whether that be becoming a Wayfinder, reporting a bug, or even just leaving a nice comment! It's been surreal seeing players finally getting their chance to run free in the village, and once most of these bugs end up being squashed I'll be super excited to get back to adding new features and content for you to try.

Until then, take care!
