Preserved in the Snow

In winter, some bears skip full hibernation. They bury prey under the snow to preserve it. When hungry, they dig up the bodies and eat. Mating with the corpses builds body heat to stay warm, while devouring the fatty parts like the breasts of female prey gives the energy needed to survive until spring. Bears bury prey in many hidden spots, leaving lots of bodies waiting for the bear to return, mate with, and feast on.
