The Witcher: A Costly Shortcut

They say that it’s always safe to stick to the main roads when travelling through the rocky landscape of Skellige. It may take longer, but you’ll arrive at your destination in one piece. 

Everyone knows that the forests and caves are home to all manner of foul beasts and cursed creatures. However, for some - either adventurers or fools - the prospect of adding days to a journey is too much and the temptation of a shortcut all too sweet. 

There’s a good reason why children’s tales warn of sneaking off into the woods…

Another set, another monster for Ciri to milk. Out of all my Witcher sets, this could very well be my favourite. From the story, the environment, camera composition to the action itself all came out really good. Which is quite the achievement as I was struggling throughout the whole set. From the get go, I could never visualise where to take the images. That was something I struggled with from the start right up to the end. However, despite this challenge, I feel like I was able to overcome it. 

Originally I was going to have a section with Redgrass and Ciri, but the section with the regular grunts just kept growing and growing until that became the main bulk of the entire story. With that in mind I set this open for either a direct sequel or a follow up set where I’ll throw in another character to the mix. 

Working with the Nekkers proved to be the usual issue as with all SFM models that they’re very awkward and cumbersome to pose. If you try to bend them in an interesting way, the model just breaks on you. But with that in mind I feel like I worked around their shortcomings here quite well and was able to limit the jankness through clever angles and changing the lighting to hide the bad textures. 

Overall, very happy with the set. Could have been better but with all the small hurdles I had making this from Blender crashing more and more as time went on to not knowing where I was taking the set, I was able to still bring out a quality piece of Witcher smut. 

Personal highlight for me would be the section with Ciri teasing the Nekkers. Did not plan on that section, so it was completely impromptu. But man, did it come out gold!
