SENTINEL'S PASS [30x40]
Nestled within a rocky gorge stands a weather-worn checkpoint, its presence marked by two rickety wooden bridges stretching across the chasm, each anchored between looming palisade watchtowers. A modest encampment occupies the grounds, tasked with overseeing all who attempt passage through the narrow mountain pass. Suspended above the path below, stone-filled troughs await the pull of a lever — a deadly trap designed to crush intruders and delay any advance deeper into the mountains.
If the empire's grip on this outpost has faltered, then the orcs have eagerly claimed it. Under their control, the fort has been transformed into a raiding outpost. The stone troughs are now used to wreck merchant caravans for plunder. Blood-soaked banners hang from the battlements, sharpened stakes line the perimeter, and macabre decorations fashioned from bone instill fear in any who dare approach.
Alternatively, the fort may lie in ruins, the aftermath of a catastrophic battle. Its defenders either fell where they stood or fled, leaving behind only scorched wood. In another fate, the fort’s strategic value may have simply faded with time, allowing nature to reclaim it. Vines now cling to crumbling pillars, and ivy winds through the remains, cloaking it in a quiet, forgotten stillness.

I'll be gone for a few weeks in Scotland, so there will be a pause in posts until I come back. I'm sure I'll be inspired to make maps based on the various castles I plan to visit, so look forward to that!
