Obsessed with Art History
So recently I got a JC Leyendecker art book and the art nerdiness am I just had to do a piece based on his work. Specifically his advertisements for Arrow Dress Shirts (see pictures 2&3).
I’m thinking of moving the time period of Obsessed to around the 1920-1930s where the initial comic, Possessed, was in the late 1890s-1900s. I try not to be too specific since I’m more educated on Art History than Fashion History. The Female lead was designed around the Gibson girl (Designed by Charles Dana Gibson) which exemplified the modern ideal women of the time (someone who participated in athletics and self-fulfillment, but would never participate in that silly uncouth suffrage movement). All demure no mindful. And that worked for the first comic because she was the type of person that wanted to keep living to pursue her own self interests, but didn’t mind being possessed (literally and figuratively). For the next comic I want the power dynamics to change and for the passage of time and style to reflect that.
Anyways if you’ve gotten this far, thanks for reading my rant. I’m close to finishing the written script on this. Let me know if y’all would like a peak or if you rather wait till it’s all drawn out ;)
