Colour Tattoos (The Long Wait is Over)
Like most things with Daz, colour tattoos haven't been easy to crack.
It is easy to place them as part of a skin and use the skin on other characters but we like to make our content as universal and useful as we can.
The problem has been getting past Daz's inbuilt colour compression. Neither myself or Asha was able to crack it and today I finally threw in the towel.
After going back and forth many times to 5+ year old forum threads and watching massive videos with very little useful content I had really hit a wall.
On one of the last forums I scouted I did find an old thread from 8 years ago describing colour compression and how Daz handles it.
I had an explore as a last ditch attempt and that was the answer that I have been seeking for two years. It was not my methods in creating the tattoos or Substance Painter/Photoshop, but Daz crushing the images down by default.
I will upload a guide with screenshots once I finish the tattoo pack and the good news is that there will be plenty to come.
Many thanks as always,
Lewis :)
For now here is a brief explanation below.
How to:
Go to Render Settings
Go to the Advanced Render Settings Tab (at the top)
Up the Medium Threshhold and High Threshhold until the tattoos stop colour bleeding (the closer you are the higher the value needs to be)
I am not overly tech savvy so I just wacked it up silly high and it worked out fine.
This as a rule will work with any assets you have that are suffering from colour loss, changing or are blurry in nature. This is caused by compression (particularly in red hues). I have noticed it since in many props and other assets since.
Perhaps you already knew this but I have been blind for so long and now I can see.
Thank you as always for your encouragement and patience.
