Some rambling here that I wanted to share... skip if lots of text is boring to you~

Recently I came across a youtube channel and they had two different videos on two related subjects: 1) kpop shipping 2) and the y/n fanfiction.

In the first case with kpop shipping, strangely they mentioned only gay ships and put taekook as one of examples, and the overall conclusion of that video was that the shipping culture is going too far and that it's better to not ship REAL people cause a) they're friends, and b) even if they were a real gay couple then they shouldn't be outed or exposed to sexual/romantic shipping. Of course, most comments were agreeing on how it's weird and wrong to ship real people, be it actual support content or through fanfiction and fanart. Some comments were even saying it's a form of sexual harassment and it's harming LGBT+... (ugh, I come across comments like that on my art very often as well) on the other hand there was no straight ships mentioned and how it can harm idols, their reputation, their privacy etc.

In the case of video about y/n imagines I expected that the youtuber would be as fair as with kpop slash shipping, saying same thing it's kinda weird to literally ship oneself with any band or artist, but no, it was just having fun reading the y/n fanfics, stuff like imagine BTS member doing things to y/n or reader, chase her, get her pregnant etc. And of course, none of comments were negative saying that "it's a sexual harassment" and that "this is a fetishization of a real person" that harms idols who are real people? No one questioned like "what if they see it? How uncomfortable they will feel". Hmm, feel the double standards?

Why shipping two same-sex members of a musical band is wrong because it's REAL persons, but shipping the same members with a reader - also REAL person - is absolutely fine? I mean, isn't that the same thing? Except with two members they could actually be a real queer couple, while with readers it's 100% made up. Well, to be fair, there's nothing wrong with either of these because at the end of the day it's all about free speech and self-expression. Some people believe something is real? Their right. Some people want to create based on that? Their right. But why is there so much hate and opposition only to a certain side? Actually there shouldn't be hate on any of that in the first place.

I won't say anything on the "it's sexual harassment" and "it's harming LGBT" comments cause it's just so absurd it doesn't need explanation. Most comments like that are rather hate speech. I mean my lgbt+ friends who aren't in fandom have no idea what is taekook, they don't even care about slash shipping culture in general, while the real harm in their life is the homophobes, the people who hated individuals like them long before the internet and will hate on them no matter what argument in support is brought.

Next, other type of comments on my art is like: imagine if you were shipped with your best friends, would you hate it? My answer is I don't care. In the case of my fanarts, I'd be even happy if if I were a celebrity and someone talented would create such beautiful art and stories with me and my best friend. I'm comfortable around my friends and confident about myself. Moreover if I were shipped with the person I secretly loved - I'd be extra secretly happy lol. On the other hand if I was shipped with a fan/reader - a total stranger, it'd be kinda strange. I mean, I don't know these people but they fantasize about me and them in romantic/sexual relationships. But even so it's just me, I wouldn't say anything against freedom of expression. Everyone is free to express themselves. I draw my art for myself and the little community that watches it. After all, I'm speaking for myself, I was asked this many times, so I answered.

Sorry for my bad English, I tried to express my thoughts. I wanted to speak out since a while ago my page was spammed by multiple hate comments from a few accounts, without interacting I blocked them but before that I checked their accounts and found out that one account named "Jungkook's girl" was apparently convinced that she and Jk are a couple, and the other account was writing explicit y'n fanfics posted on Instagram in the form of text images, shipping herself/female reader with Jungkook... like there was c*ck and c*nt in the text and graphic sex described. There's nothing wrong about it but girl, these both accounts attacked My Only One AU calling it disgusting sh*t and "don't ship two men who are like brothers" with lots of vomit emojis lol. Oh... I'm getting used to this sort of comments. I ignored them. Some time has passed and I came across those youtube videos and the situation in the comments was just similar, with the double standards and the hypocrisy. In the end it's just the old homophobia hiding under all the excuses... or just plain envy, jealousy, ignorance. That's why I wanted to speak my mind on that.

What's the conclusion? I'm not bothered at all, just sharing this because if you as a same-sex couple supporter or just a person who enjoys slash fiction or fanart encounter such an opinion, you know what to say in response if needed or just ignore and don't be discouraged by these opinions. Like, who is speaking? As long as we keep it respectful, ignore the haters, and enjoy what we love - then everything is fine. Live and let live. Peace ??️
