Hi witches!

I have been doing some deep inner work in recent months and haven't been as present here as I'd like to be. I'm going through a big transit, progressed new moon, an emotional reset that starts a new 30 year cycle in the psyche. This happens for everyone at different life stages depending on where the sun and moon were when you were born. It's a low ebb time. I'm glad to have finished my main upcoming projects for now and I'm giving myself some time to rest. I’ve been working on my non-fiction magical book, Awakening the Wild Witch!

This is a very special book. I started writing it almost a year ago, during a Mercury Retrograde—a powerful, inward time for me. I felt inspired to write about my approach to magic because I know many of my readers are interested in it and what it means to me. I explore magic in my fantasy fiction, weaving real magic and mythology into my stories, and as I had this idea for a book, a structure took shape. Just as each Myrtlewood Mysteries book is based on a different seasonal festival, each chapter here is rooted in a similar theme—not exactly the seasonal festivals, but something of the transformative nature of that journey. The book soon took on a life of its own.

In fact, at one point, it even attracted the interest of a major publisher who was very excited about it. But after going through the process of figuring out what I truly wanted to do with this book, I realised that traditional publishing wasn’t the right path for me. The publisher was not great at communication, and rather than pitching it to other publishers—as my agent was eager to do—I decided it would be in my best interest to take my time and develop the book with the same level of care and attention that a large publisher might, but on my own terms. There are big risks in selling publishing rights—publishers move on, or they may want to take the project in a direction that doesn’t align with my vision. Instead, I chose to retain ownership, especially since advances in technology now allow for the creation of beautiful special editions and high-quality books without the need for a big publisher.

Taking my time with this project has been invaluable. It’s allowed me to shape the book carefully while maintaining complete creative control, ensuring that I can deliver something truly powerful to my readers. This book is as much a gift to you as it is to myself because the process of writing it has been one of transformation. Over this past year, I have grown, developed, and changed in profound ways. I’m so excited about its emergence—like a caterpillar emerging from a cocoon—and I’m thrilled to share it with you.

You’ll notice that this book focuses on deep, intuitive magic—on creating our own workings—rather than following rigid instructions. True magic is far more powerful when we connect with it intuitively, crafting our own spells and rituals, rather than simply following a recipe someone else has created. This is about connecting with our wild magic, that deep, innate force intertwined with nature, with our own nature, and with the unfolding of our lives. When we truly engage with this magic, it guides us, shapes us, and transforms our world in unexpected, beautiful, and powerful ways.

When we are in darkness, we can’t always see the light—but we know we must keep moving, one foot in front of the other. We know we must journey through the underworld in order to emerge. This book is a guide to that kind of transformation, just as much as it is a guide to making the most of things when they are good and easy.

So no matter where you are in your life or magical journey—whether you’re a beginner or experienced, in a season of harvest or a season of rest and renewal—may you find inspiration, peace, support, empathy, and solace within these pages. And may it awaken you to your deep inner wild magic and the mystery, synchronicity, beauty, and immense power woven through this world.

I have a few months of the most intense part of this transit, which requires gentleness and ease and surrendering to the unfolding process. It has been very magical, and I'm learning a lot! I intend to keep up with all my projects, but the pace may be slow for a while because I need to rest and honour this time.
