Mural project: First weekend✔️ Step by step
Hi guys! I just started the mural and this is how have spent the last 2 days?
How to work on a mural: Step by step
- First we measured the wall and designed the mural witht he right proportion. Also we waited for the approval of the school where the project was going to be made. We did this so long ago but we have been waiting to have the permission of the area, police, etc. That's why we started now on September✨
- My friend and I, who's also working on this project, made the preparing layers on the wall. We did a total of 4: One layer of fixer, to make the paint stick to the wall for longer; and 3 layers of white.
- Then we did the guidelines. For dimentions this big you can still use a grid, but it's not really recommended as it's pretty difficult to make the lines straight. That's why we used this method, which is really common on the muraling world. It's about drawing random figures through all the wall, take a picture of it and then multiply it with the photo of the design (see how in the 3th photo). That way you have a reference to know where each item or character is located!
- That's how we started working on the drawing, which we did in charcoal first so we could easily erase. This is a really different style of drawing compared to what we usually do, more cartoonish, so we were scared to mess up? Once it was done in charcoal we proceeded to follow the lines with magenta paint (we chose a random color). That way we made sure the drawing would stay on the wall for the next weekend, when we are going to get back at working on the project.
This mural is 3 metres tall for 10 metres long, so you can imagine this took a lot of time. I'm a bit over the place today, as I am soooo tired? This is a lot more difficult than I thought it woud be, but we are enjoying it! The preparing layers weren't that fun?
Next step is start coloring. We will also have the participation of some kids on the school, as this is made for them? I find it so exciting!
I will continue to update you on the project? Hopefully you found the steps useful for a future mural of yours!
