day two with fede and marta

day two of a full day of private lessons with fede kirigami and marta tenshiko...

another request from me to them for these lessons: transitions. something i particularly love about fede and marta's style of tying and teaching is that there is very little cut and dry step by step. there's a whole lot of room for interpretation and improvisation. even in lessons, i feel the freedom and approval and trust to make my ties mine.

the first sequence (the first three photos) is a flippy dippy m-shape. we ended up in this squat predicament at the end, which i have become obsessed with since coming home. the second sequence (photos four and five) we took a "break" to do a floor-ish predicament, by special request of anna. the third and final sequence (last photo!) focused greatly on body handling in the air. this one was tough, much tougher than both of us anticipated.

this was some of the most challenging rope i've ever learned. the sequences were long and complicated, many technical aspects involved small details that could make or break the tie, anna was struggling (thrilled to be, but very much in torment). its hard to express how validating it feels to be in that room, to be able to keep up, and to be trusted (by both anna and fede and marta) to do so.
