Sex Wizards Crossover!

Y'all voted for Garret/Galiva, not knowing that Alethea was writing a scene between them. We've been passing the same $10 back and forth on Patreon since the beginning, so as a little treat, we're doing a crossover! Here's a little sneak peak of Sex Wizards book 5.

----------------------

“You have your full mastery. You were eligible to be Grandmaster just the same as Arlon was.” I keep my eyes on the ground as I ask, “Why was he picked over you?”

To my surprise, Garrett laughs. “Because Arlon wanted it. I never did.”

I frown at that. “You really didn’t have any ambition for it? Why get your full mastery?”

“In part because I like making magic.” His grin is sly before he turns his face up, eyes tracing the constellations overhead. “I wanted to see what magic was capable of. Still do, because I think we’ve barely dipped a toe into all that it’s able to accomplish. Every time someone gains a mastery, creates a spell that no one has made before, that theory is reinforced.”

I can’t help a small smile. Recently, I’ve only thought about the destructive possibility of magic. It’s nice to be reminded of the wonder.

“But to answer your other question, of course I had ambition for it,” Garrett says. “I even apprenticed Fawn. Want to guess how long I lasted?”

I kick at a little cluster of leaves, sending them skittering across the fields on a gentle breeze. “A week?”

“Two days.”

Ouch. What killed that ambition so quickly?”

Garrett glances down at me with a tusky smile. “I’m a conduit, Gal. I like to be ordered around. Not a big fan of doing the ordering.” That surprises a laugh out of me, and Garrett’s grin widens. “The position is a lot to carry. It was exhausting just watching Fawn do it. Switching from caretaker, to organizer, to courtier, to counselor, to mentor to any other godsdamned thing that’s needed.” He rattles off the list before letting out a long sigh. “It’s not something everyone can do.”

I swallow, uncertainty creeping in. “Do you think I can do it?”

Garrett gives me a curious look. “You already are.”

My stomach sinks as I think of Thaddius and Margeurite, of all the things I’ve done or not done, or am doing that I’m not proud of. “Not well, I’m afraid.”

“See and that’s the true kicker of the position,” Garrett says. “You’ll never know how you’re doing, yet you’ll have no shortage of folks willing to give you their opinion. But no matter what sort of slander is thrown at you, you have to remain convinced that your choices are the right ones. So the real question is - do you have the conviction to stand behind the choices you’ll have to make?”

The sky around the mountain peaks is starting to brighten, but on the other side of them, the sun has no doubt already crested the horizon. A sun rising on Thaddius who is only there because I sent him. I swallow my misgivings and let out another long breath.

“I guess I’ll have to learn.”

“You will.” His grin turns sly as he adds, “Having an entire tower-full of wizards willing to fuck your troubles away helps.”

I can’t help but laugh. “And how often have you helped Arlon with that?”

Garrett’s grin is crooked. “Probably as many times as he and Bri have done for me.”

I chuckle and say, “You know, Cancassi did the same for me the other night. It helped at the time, but today a part of me just wants to run off and disappear into the woods.”

“Well, why don’t you?”

I blink and give him a sidelong look. “What?”

He smirks down at me, heat smoldering in his eyes. “Run, Galiva. And when I catch you, I’m going to fuck every last trouble out of you before I let you go to back to work.”

Lust surges through me. “I-I thought you belonged to Bri and Arlon when you’re at the Crux?”

Garrett comes to a stop, and I whirl to avoid putting my back to him. The normally serene energy he carries has changed, and in the pre-dawn light, his tusky grin looks downright predatory. “We’re not in the Crux, are we?”

When he steps towards me, it’s a fight not to back up. He comes to a stop in front of me, towering over me as he gently tilts my chin up with a finger. “Better hurry, Gal. It’ll be a lot easier to find you once the sun’s up.”
