Anduo Report - October 15th, 2022

Heya all! Vils here with the weekly report for the week! Let's get into it!

"Hey ya everyone! There are quite a lot for this report, so lets get started. First of all we add some wethering to our brand new buildings to make them feel like they belong there and to set the mood right overall and it worked greatly, IMO."


"Also we decided to slightly rework them with twice as big windows so new option of peeking inside is now available ^_^"


"Some work were done on textures and with next screenshot wanted just brag hoow seamlessly  those 3 different texture are blending together thanks to Bear's magical shader!!"


"And lastly work on slavemarket is in process, new stalls and slight changes in positioning, BUT the main star on this one is Bear's brand new fog!!!, it level up the whole location so much, so I couldn't stop playing with it and exploring it, here are a couple of screenshots of how it looks for now, still a lot of changes on the way!"

"We are working with 2 Animators right now (Orochi and MF3d), but while they are both amazing neither of them have the time to really do as much work for us as we need. They've done outstanding work though, have a look!"

"Next, I've implemented a mix of realtime and baked lighting into our gameplay scene. Finally Characters don't have specular reflections when they're in shadow anymore, which looks much more natural!"

"Spooky Dala"


"I've worked on cloth physics! Actually it isn't cloth physics at all, it's extremely cheap to render bone deformations! The bones are being pushed around by colliders and have a force that tries to reach the original state while taking things like innertia, weight and smoothing into account!"


"After that, I implemented an entire scene with dialogue, scene transitions and animation (including Orochi's animation)!"

"Oh yeah! I also implemented an entire dialogue system, that lets us make dialogue WAY easier than we ever were able in third crisis!"

"We're using the same system as Disco Elysium apparently! So it's proven itself in large games. We'll see how it treats us! :)"


"Then today, I've started by adding some logic to our "flag waving in the wind" shader, to make it stop going through the wall, instead having a limit on how far it can swing backwards. Here's that in action:"

"And then the most exciting new lighting stuff in my opinion: GOD RAYS"

"A bunch of work has gone into making this happen. The performance is a little bit of a concern right now, but I'm hoping it won't be too bad in the actual build!"

"Essentially it's a volume of fog, that is hidden where any shadow covers it up. Volume rendering is generally something that's hard to do in real-time like this with good performance."
