A collection of some of my life drawings! Most of these are from Uni, some from Highschool, and some are private study. 90% were drawn from live models or still life’s using charcoal!

My hot takes on Life Drawing: Most of the artists I looked up to when I was younger harped on the importance of drawing from life like it was this secret ingredient to being great. However, HOT TAKE!!! I don’t think it’s that revolutionary. I mean sure, it’s hard as hell, but other than a strained eyes, a sore butt and respect for artists who do it regularly, I feel like I get just as much out of studying from photo reference. (Does that make me a bad artist?? Idk plz don’t shame me)

I feel like it’s important to be honest about it, because when I was younger I thought I had to do hours and hours of life drawing to become a good artist. However, I think it just depends on what works for you. The actual studying— whether it be from life or from reference— is what will help you improve. In the end, I don’t regret doing it, but don’t feel like you’re missing out on something life changing if you’re an artist who doesn’t have access to live models. Just my two cents! (Don’t hurt me)
