The Back Log, vol. 70 - Wake Up Gus!

My Wiggles references feel very outdated...

...but nonetheless, this greenscreen-fuelled edit of the team as The Wiggles brings me immense joy. Shoutout to Jshie for bringing this one to life. And I'm calling dibs on Dorothy the Dinosaur.

For once, it's a week light on housekeeping, so let's not beat around the bush and get straight to it!

PREVIOUSLY ON BACK POCKET

Back Pocket ft. AUTHOR Mark Serrels
Our favourite Scotsman in the industry, who just so happens to also now be a published children's author, made his return to the Back Pocket studio! After telling us just how that book came to be (including his collab with his very own Ruby) - and providing us with some authentic Irn-Bru - we got a bit more serious and picked his brain for his thoughts on the unfortunately declining state of Australian games media. I highly recommend giving this part in particular a watch - it was genuinely brilliant to listen to. Serrels also brought a doozy of a game for What We've Been Playing, the eerie Daemonologie, which was alongside some other hot new releases in R.E.P.O., Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and Split Fiction. We wrapped up the show with the long-awaited return of The Game of Life, keen for whatever cursed advice Pete could cook up this time, but not before we had a chance to put Mark's head on top of some video game characters in Celebrity Headjobs!

THIS WEEK ON BACK POCKET

Get ready to get Wild(s) as Pete hunts some monsters in the niche indie darling Monster Hunter Wilds this very afternoon. In fact, depending on when you're reading this, it might even be right now! So quick, go check Twitch!

And then on Thursday, one of our more frequent guests, who also happens to be a kickass museum curator AND Ruby's bestie, Chloe Appleby, will be on the show with us! Now, where can I get myself a beret?

---

I sit here writing this in the midst of an annoyingly incessant Melbourne heatwave, and yet I just wanted to say my heart goes out to everyone in NSW and QLD right now who have been affected by the cyclone and ongoing storms! As frustrating as the heat here has been, it's nothing in comparison to what you folks have been facing, and continue to face.

One of the small benefits of that heat, however, has been the opportunity to stay inside and get stuck into some Split Fiction over the weekend, which is a truly phenomenal game. I'm only halfway through and yet already feel like I've experienced multiple games worth of amazing moments - if you're a fan of the likes of It Takes Two, Astro Bot and/or Ratchet & Clank, I promise you that you won't want to miss this one!
